Wednedsday January 28

Well I let a whole week go by but it has been a busy week. The weather warmed up and the water calmed down so we were off exploring.
Paul & I took the dinghy to Tahiti Beach -- just the 2 of us. We haven't done that much. The shelling was just OK but we had a very relaxing day. Amarse & Tar Heel took their dinghies to Pete's Pub but Paul didn't want to go that far.
Last Sunday Shade Mor took another boat load(40) to Nippers. That is always a fun trip. We had to miss a fishing trip on John Henry to go to Nippers. Wink & Wilma took 18 people out fishing. They had a great time and caught quite a few fish.
We had dinner on Tar Heel along with Robert & Rita from Magnum Opus. We played dominos. We haven't played dominos for a long time and I guess we showed it -- we lost.
Judy (Amarse) and I worked hard getting another open house for our jewelry. We had a good turn out.
We had an all dock inclusive dock party on dock 4 yesterday. We had a great turn out.
Paul & Wink went out for lobster again today. They got 10. That means good eating for Kris & John on their first night here - Friday.

Thursdsay January 22

It was still cold this morning so I did not go run.
Paul & I took the scooter ( I bundled up) to meet some friends to pick up some Key limes our friend Charlie sent to us from Man O War. Then we went to the Police station to renew the scooter license that expired on Paul's birthday, then to the bank, then to the grocery store.
After lunch I went to play bingo.
I made potato soup, Italian bread and a salad. Wink, Wilma and Sherrie joined us for dinner.
The weather is SUPPOSED to start warming up tomorrow. Our aft cockpit was very nice and warm this afternoon.

Wednesday January 21

Catch up time.
Judy ( Amarse) & I spent Saturday getting our jewelry organized for our "open house" on Monday. Sunday was an absolutely gorgeous day but I continued working on the jewelry because Paul was working on the scooter and I know better than to interrupt.
Dock 4 had a happy hour. Paul & I had to cut the our time short because we had dinner with Bill Thornycraft & Sandra Evans at their house. We had a very nice dinner and visit.
Monday I didn't run because I didn't feel all that great and I had to finish things for our open house. We had a good turn out for our open house. Judy & I were both pleased.
Fred ( Amarse) cooked dinner for us, a wonderful chicken soup. After dinner we watched a good movie.
Tuesday Wilma & I went to run. Wilma's is running a lot more. We also walked with the walking group.
Paul got the scooter running so we had to test it out. We went to the grocery store then Pop's Chicken, one of my favorites, for lunch.
A cold front was scheduled to come through so I put on a pot of chili .
The cold front DID indeed come through. The thermometer recorded a low temperature of 55 degrees. That is the coldest I can remember for here. I did not want to get out of bed but Paul said it was already back up to 65. I drug myself out and got dressed to go run. I did bundle up like I did when I was in Ohio. I ran hard to try to keep warm but the wind still cut right through me. I decided that since it was still only 62 (not 65) when I got home I was going to hibernated. I ate my chili and did laundry. Funny on the net they advised bringing pets and plants indoors. Guess I won't get any sympathy from friends in the states since they are having record colds also.

Friday January 16

Yesterday Wilma didn't go out to run and I had trouble getting started. I quit when I ran into the walkers coming back from Eastern Shore and walked the rest of the way in.
I tried to call Janet several times to wish her a happy birthday. Happy Birthday Janet.
Paul started working on the scooter.
Rita (Magnum Opus) had several ladies for lunch then Judy (Amarse) taught us how to make crochet necklaces with beads & shells.
I fixed a big dinner and invited Wink & Wilma because their company left today and Wilma needed a break.
Today Wilma & I ran/walked Pelican Shore.
Paul fixed french toast for breakfast.
Judy & I were working on our jewelry. Patty (Orinoco) came over with her computer. She is placing an order from Fire Mountain jewelry supply. Judy & I helped her then added some of our own orders-- like we REALLY needed more beads. Rita & Peggy (More Attitude) came by with some jewelry questions then also added their orders.
Paul was not able to work on the scooter because the pilot house was "full of women all day".
I made a tossed salad to take to Susan's ( Susan's Cove) for dinner. Paul, Frank ( Sea Smoke) & I went for a great dinner and a new card game.
Wilma & I took Sara out for her nightly walk.

Wednesday January 14

I did get my extra mile in on my run today and felt great all the time.
I went to Ladies lunch because it was here at the resort -- and because it was an excuse to go out to lunch.
Paul did not start on the scooter today. Our shower sump quit working so he fixed that then he read. So I got tired of waiting to "find" the pilot house. I just stacked his BIG pile of scooter parts in one corner (I know, I will pay for that when he can't find some "vital"part) but I wanted to set up my jewelry "stuff". Judy (Amarse)came over and we got started on the jewelry we plan to take to Man O War flea market in Feb. We also had 2 "customers" here today.
I will not complain about the cold here. It only got to the low 70s here today and I was cold this evening but it is far better than what I am reading about in Ohio.

Tuesday January 13

I stayed up a little too late last night posting pictures so I really had trouble getting started today. I did go run and added an extra mile to try to compensate a little for my over indulgence last night.
Paul was busy all day getting the bar ready for the Yacht Club chili cook off tonight. He has been the bar tender for the yacht club for three years now.
The chili cook off was lots of fun. I was only brave enough to taste about 3 kinds. We had about 30 different chili's. One of the winners was a chicken chili. It was white -- looked good but gone by the time I got to it.
I had 2 bowls of Winks chili. It was very good and would have rated high on my list if I was a judge. I wasn't going to eat any more sugar tonight because I think I had too much last night and that's what kept me awake BUT my will power went right out the door when I say the blueberry pie-- oh well another extra mile tomorrow.
Hope you enjoy the pictures.
Paul has been snoring since a little after nine -- that bar tending is hard work.
All for now
Sue

Monday Jan 12

I ran by myself today but I needed it after all I ate yesterday. I added an extra mile through the Abaco Club.
New meaning for going out for dinner. Paul & I took the dinghy out because today was even better than yesterday. It was like riding through an aquarium. Paul got our dinner, lobster of course, then we did a little more site seeing. We saw several coral heads with beautiful fish -- large angel fish, parrot fish, sargent majors, and many more colorful fish. Paul also stopped at another possible lobster place then when he got back in the boat he drove the boat over the coral head so I could look with my viewing bucket to see 3 lion fish- poison fish but beautiful, a moray eel, and a small stingray -- Now that is why I don't dive for lobster but I did enjoy seeing them with my bucket.
We were going to have our lobster for dinner but Wink & Wilma had also gone out with Wink's brother John and his wife Stephanie and got 8 lobster. They got several big tunas and a wahoo yesterday so they invited us, Fred & Judy ( Amarse) and Sherry
(Chipka Fire) to join them for fresh Sushi, fried Wahoo, baked lobster, salad, brownies, cookies, and key lime pie. Tomorrow I will need to add at least 2 extra miles.
We played Apples to Apples after dinner.

Pete's Pub

Yesterday I had a good run in the morning.
Paul & I walked to the grocery store AGAIN. Shortly after we got here the the throttle cable on our scooter broke. Some friends are bringing it when they come. We thought they would be here early December. We THINK they did cross today so hopefully it will be here early this week.
Dock 7 held a full moon party. They had a good turn out with lots of food and good music. The full moon was beautiful.
Today was an absolutly georgous day, as Patty would say a Chamber of Commerce Day.
Fred & Judy (Amarse) and Paul & I took our dinghies to Pete'e Pub. The ride down was perfect. The water was flat calm and such beautiful colors. We had some gentle rollers the last part but nothing bad.
I did some beach combing, nothing great, before lunch.
I had pan fried snapper. It was great. The fish there is always fresh and always good. I am not a cole slaw fan but I do like their Pinapple walnut cole slaw.
The ride home was bumpy.
WInk and Wilma had gone fishing with Jim Fenn. They gave us some fresh tuna.

Tahiti Beach Day

I ran this morning and felt really good. After I finished my usual course I ran back out to walk in with the walkers.
6 dinghies with 14 people went to Tahiti Beach. It was a perfect day the winds were light and with the full moon tomorrow the tide was really low when we got there one hour before low tide. We had 2 great shelling hours that proved very productive and some great shells - among them 2 helmuts and a huge horse conch.
We all went to Cracker Ps for lunch. While Paul and several others enjoyed drinking "yellow Birds" a rum drink I enjoyed watching the humming birds and Banana Quit birds drink at the bird feeder. We also enjoyed the fresh Wahoo sandwiches.
The dinghy ride was very peasant both ways.

Paul's birthday

Today is Paul's birthday -- it is also Elvis Presley's birthday.
Wilma & I went out at 8 to do our run/walk then met up with Judy,Pat & Joan to finish up. I added an extra mile run at the end.
Paul went out with the guys on their walk.
Paul went with Wink to bring home another LARGE rock for his collection.
Happy hour on the dock tonight featured ANOTHER birthday cake for Paul.
Wink & Wilma gave Paul a rock with crystals for a birthday present. Judy, who made the german chocolate cake, Paul's favorite, gave Paul a Carl Edwards shirt.
Carolyn wrote a peom and gave him a bag of chocolates.

Tuesday

This post is out of line. Wilma & I went out for our run then walked with the group.
Abaco Lady came into the Marina. Friends Jim,Judy, Deb & Jerry are here for a day or 2. It was great to see them.
Judy, Gene, Carl, Lois, Paul & I went to Matildas Snack Shack for hamburgers for lunch.
I went to the Rotary Club meeting. It was a real experience but also fun.
I was there to present somefire hats to the local fire department. Joe & Candy Nelis from Beauufout SC sent them over with us. They are the ones their local fire department had to replace. It was a lively meeting. Things I just don't think about - when they sang the National Anthem - Of course it is the Bahamian National Anthem.

Big Day

Today was such a busy but really fun day.
I was up early because today was my day to anchor the Yacht Club morning meeting.
I had to pass my run for today to get ready to go sailboat racing.
Wally has a 40 ft sailboat and this is the third time I have gone racing with him.
My "official" job is spotting the markers. We had a little rain squall pass over just after we left the marina. The wind died down to 10-15 for about the first hour of the race. We crossed the starting line about mid pack. Finally the wind picked back up and we started moving up. We were a close third across the finish line. If we had had another leg we may have been first. Tomorrow we will find out our official finish
after the handicaps are figured in. I had a blast.
I got home in time to take a shower and change to head out Eastern Shore to Slip Away for Doug Fays "first annual New Years celebration". We had about 30 people walking from Boat Harbour -about 1 1/2 miles. Doug has a beautiful BIG house. He really layed out a spread. There were 3 bars set up with all kinds of drinks. I had a wonderful pina colada- no mix -all fresh.
There were fruit and vegetable trays out in several places. Next came grilled beef or chicken kabobs. Then several large trays of fresh shrimp. Next was stone crab claws then cups of conch salad then conch fritters. Somewhere along the line some little fruit pastries show up. Music was a Bahamian musician with good music. I danced some. Paul did dance with me twice. He does better after a few drinks.
Then Doug brought out big sheet cake and everybody sang happy birthday to Paul- tomorrow is his birthday.
We had over 100 people. I handled the reservations.
We were going to walk home but when friends had several extra seats in their van we rode home.
What a great Day! Pictures to follow

Nippers & "catch up"

We had planned to take the dinghies to Pete's Pub since it was such a beautiful day but when Bob from Shade Mor, A 65 Hatteras, called and ask us to join them and about 35 others to go to Nippers we jumped at the chance.
It was an absolutely gorgeous day. The trip up and back was fantastic. Paul & I both had grouper fingers and fries then I headed for the beach. The beach is so beautiful there. But all too soon it was time to head back.
Now as I promised back to my update:
We left Brunswick mid September for Green Cove Springs. We hated to leave our good friends Fred & Judy but we headed for our good friends Wink & Wilma in Green Cove Springs.
Steve & Marilyn, more good friends, once again, gave us their car to use while we were in Green Cove Springs. It was a BIG help.
I went to Solomons Maryland to work the Charter Booth for Mirage. It was a lot of fun and the big bonus was the great dinners every night -- oh no there went the diet.
I flew up and back with Eric Kraft. We spent the first night with Bruce & Joan, GH Forever 39. I stayed in The Holiday Inn in Solomons. Joe & Punk Pica had their boat N37 Carolyn Ann in the show. Everynight we all went NICE places for dinner.
When I got back to Green Cove I started my provisioning ( and got back to running) for the Bahamas.
On Oct 17 I flew to Columbus. Janet & I went to Pittsburgh to see Kris & John then on to Moundsville to visit with my Mom. We spent the night with my brother Roger.
On Monday I went to Nelsonville for my Mammogram and to visit with my friends at Nelsonville.
Tuesday I flew back to Florida. In Atlanta I met up with Charlie Corkum who is going to travel with us again this year to The Bahamas. He has a house on Man O War.
After more provisioning we left Green Cove Springs and headed for the ICW and then south to West Palm Beach.
We stopped in Vero Beach. Paul & Connie, GH The Rose, drove down and we all went to dinner.
We spent 3 days in West Palm. We had dinner with friends Margo & Dennis & Susan.
Margo took me shopping -- more provisioing. Now provisioning isn't really THAT big of a deal but as long as I can squeeze more things in I keep adding. I think this year with all our "stuff" and all of Charlies "stuff" we were maxed out -NO MORE ROOM. So it was time to leave.
The evening on Nov 6 GH47s John Henry & Pokey arrived in Lake Worth. We moved to the south anchorage.
At 4AM on Nov 7 we headed for the Bahamas. The crossing started with rollers but got better the farther we went. When we got to The Bahama Bank about 11 it was beautiful as always.
We anchored at Great Sale Cay for a beautiful night.
We went to Spanish Cay to clear Customs and Immigration. Wink & Wilma, John Henry, decided to stay a few days.
Tim & Becky, Pokey, followed us on down through Don't Rock then we suugested they go into Treasurer Cay because we were going on to Man O War but it would be after dark before we got there. We have been there enough times and we are going to Charlies dock so Paul felt comfortable traveling after dark.
We spent several days at Man O War. We met up with Roger and Jeanie and had lunch at Hibiscus Cafe. I got a small Man O War fix.
We came to Boat Harbour Nov 15. Wink & Wilma joined us the next day.
There were only a few boats here when we arrived but more arrived almost everyday.
Janet & Ken came for Thanksgiving.
Fred & Judy, Amarse, Fred & Sherrie, Chipka Fire also came in that week so we all had Thanksgiving dinner on John Henry -- 10 of us. A great dinner.
Janet & Ken went diving one day, lobstering with Paul & Wink one day, then to Elbow Cay for a couple of days. They had spent part, the good part, of their honeymoon there. On their last day here we all went to Nippers on Shade Mor with about 40 other people.
We had a good but all too short visit.
Our walking group here is very active now that we have lots of boats. One morning we had 21. I run about every other day. My time is finally down to the best it has been for several years. My best for the 5 miles is 45.33. Wilma is running some with me and we walk with Judy some. We also have water arobics 3 day a week -- I have only made it once because I got really cold. The pool is not heated nearly enough for me- but I guess I will give it another shot.
The Yacht Club had a very nice Christmas Party.
We have "happy hour" on our dock about 3 nights a week.
We had a nice Christmas -- only 8 of us on John Henry. We had an "all marina" party on Christmas Eve then a dock 4 happy hour at noon on Christmas Day so our dinner for 8 at 5 pm seemed quiet.
Paul out did himself, and our budget, for Christmas. He got me a gold sea horse necklace that I had admired at Abaco Gold and also a pair of conch shell earrings that I have been lusting over for about 2 years.
Paul & Wink have been doing really well getting lobster this year. We have had lobster about 6 times. Wink is good a getting fish also and I have really enjoy the fish also.
I guess that just about brings us up to date. I will try to add some pictures.
My post from now on will be MUCH shorter.

New Year

My New Years resolution is to post more frequently to this blog.
I should have worked on it this evening because I had time but instead I played games on the computer.
I am going to post an update then go back and add pictures since that seems to be my biggest problem.
I am going to go back to where I left off in September to bring everyone up to date on our wonderful life.
Tomorrow we are headed to Pete's Pub in the dinghies so hopefully I can post tomorrow night.
That's all for tonight
